Vision 2020 Requires Drastic Changes

Economist: Achieving Vision 2020 will be challenging

Achieving Vision 2020 will be a challenging task and require drastic changes in the
Malaysian economic system, says an economist.

Dr Ivan Tselichtchev, a professor at the Niigata University of Management in Japan, said it was difficult and “a little too late” for Malaysia to achieve developed nation status within the next 10 years because of the lack of economic growth.

He, however, concurred that the move to adjust Malaysia’s annual growth rate to over 7% would increase the chances of reaching the target.
