KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Koh Tsu Koon yesterday suggested that the Malaysian police set new guidelines to handle street demonstrations.
Koh, who is minister in charge of unity and key performance index (KPI), said it was necessary to have clear standard operating procedures that do not discriminate against any group that wishes to put across their grouses.
"It is important that the police show that they are acting fairly and consistently," he said yesterday.
"We cannot allow the perception (to be perpetuated) that the police will take action against one group but not against another.
"The police force needs a new approach to handle demonstrations."
