No Muslims At Concert

No Muslims at Malaysia Black Eyed Peas concert

Muslims in Malaysia have been barred from attending a concert by U.S. hip hop band the Black Eyed Peas sponsored by Guinness which is owned by the world's biggest spirits group Diageo.
The move comes after a Malaysian Islamic court sentenced a 32-year Muslim woman to be caned after she was caught drinking beer in a hotel and at a time when an opposition Islamic party has moved against beer sales.
The concert, part of celebrations of Guinness 250th birthday, asks on its website (www.arthursday.com.my) "Are you a non-Muslim aged 18 years and above?" and if the response is no, access is not allowed.
Muslims account for 55 percent of the 27 million people in this Southeast Asian country and are barred from consuming alcohol although the rules are regularly flouted, especially in big cities like the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia's Guinness Anchor which sells Guinness and other brands here had sales of 1.2 billion Malaysian ringgit (210 million pounds) in 2008.
Even without alcohol, foreign bands are subject to scrutiny. Earlier this week, the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) said it wanted Danish band Michael Learns to Rock banned from performing as it would cause immorality.
Since 2007, PAS, the country's second largest political group measured by party membership, has campaigned against performances by the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne.

Distinctness

From Ibn Umar (radhiyallah hu ‘anhu) who said that Allah’s Messenger, Muhammad pbuh said:
“I have been sent with the sword, before the Hour, so that Allah alone should be worshipped without any partner for Him, and my provision has been placed beneath the shade of my spear, and subservience and humiliation have been placed upon those who disobey my orders, and whoever imitates a people then he is one of them”
(hadith reported by Ahmad and others with hasan isnaad)

The Muslim has a distinct personality with his own special nature and particular outlook and manner. He is distinct in his appearance, his nature, his creed (‘aqidah), his orientation and direction faced in Prayer, and in all his affairs.

By being distinct, Muslims preserve their religion, Islam, and their call in a clear and pure form, free from any adulteration or mistakes. However the Muslim whilst being distinct does not depart from Justice and Being Justly Balanced.

Manfaatkan Ramadhan

berbagai jenis kuih raya dijual

(Hadith riwayat Ibnu Khuzaimah).

Purity and Sincerity of Intention

From ‘Umar ibn al-Khatab (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) who said that Allah’s Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him – pbuh):
“Actions are but by intentions and there is for every person only that which he intended. So he whose migration was for Allah and His Messenger, then his migration was for Allah and His Messenger, and he whose migration was to attain some worldly goal or to take a woman in marriage, then his migration was for that which he migrated”.
(hadith reported by Bukhari and Muslim)

Therefore the pillar for actions is pure and sincere intention, and through purity of intention the heart becomes upright and at rest, and through it the person comes to know the right way in his Religion, prompting him to do everything in the proper manner. Through purity of intention alone he will come to know of the obligations upon him and the rights due to him. Through it he will behave justly in all affairs and will perform everything in the right and proper way, and not excessive or slack in his actions.

So when the Muslim, (servant of God) clearly realizes what has preceded then it becomes obligatory upon him that he should, without any hesitation, surround his sincere intention with the protective barrier for the Islamic personality, i.e. Distinctness

Hadis Sahih Muslim On Fasting (As Sawm)

excellence of the month of Ramadan

Abu Huraira ra (who lived during the Prophet’s time) reported Allah's Messenger, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) as saying:
“When there comes the month of Ramadan, the gates of mercy are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained”.

fasting in Ramadan should necessarily be commenced with the sight of the new moon and finished with the sight of the newmoon if the weather is cloudy at the beginning or at the end, then complete thirty days

Ibn Umar ra (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported Allah's Messenger, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) as saying in connection with Ramadan:
“Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fast till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it (the months of Sha'ban and Shawwal) as thirty days”.

do not fast for a day or two days ahead of Ramadan

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) as saying:
"Do not observe fast for a day, or two days ahead of Ramadan except a person who is in the habit of observing a particular fast; he may fast on that day".

the month may consist of twenty-nine days

Zuhri ra reported that (once) the Apostle of Allah, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) took an oath that he would not go to his wives for one Month. Zuhri said that 'Urwa narrated to him from 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) that she said:
"When twenty-nine nights were over, which I had counted, the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) came to me (he came to me first of all)".
I said: "Messenger of Allah, you had taken an oath that you would not come to us for a month, whereas you have come after twenty nine days which I have counted". Whereupon he said:
"The month may also consist of twenty-nine days".

there is a sighting of the moon for every town; the sighting at one town cannot be held valid for the other town situated at a considerable distance from it
Kuraib reported that Umm Fadl, daughter of Harith, sent him (Fadl, i. e. her son) to Mu'awiya in Syria. I (Fadl) arrived in Syria, and did the needful for her. It was there in Syria that the month of Ramadan commenced. I saw the new moon (of Ramadan) on Friday. I then came back to Medina at the end of the month. Abdullah b. 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) asked me (about the new moon of Ramadan) and said: When did you see it? I said.: We saw it on the night of Friday. He said: (Did) you see it yourself? -I said: Yes, and the people also saw it and they observed fast and Mu'awiya also observed fast, whereupon he said: But we saw it on Saturday night. So we would continue to observe fast till we complete thirty (lasts) or we see it (the new moon of Shawwal). I said: Is the sightidg of the moon by Mu'awiya not valid for you? He said: No; this is how the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) has commanded us. Yahya b. Yahya was in doubt (whether the word used in the narration by Kuraib) was Naktafi or Taktafi.

it is immaterial whether the new moon is large (on account of appearing after thirty nights) or small (on account of appearing on the thirtieth night) ; and allah defers it to make it suitable for sighting and if the sky is cloudy, then thirty (fasts)

Abu'l-Bakhtari reported: We went out to perform Umrah and when we encamped in the valley of Nakhla, we tried to see the new moon. Some of the people said: It was three nights old, and others (said) that it was two nights old. We then met Ibn 'Abbas and told him we had seen the new moon, but that some of the people said it was three nights old and others that it was two nights old. He asked on which night we had seen it; and when we told him we had seen it on such and such night, he said the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him) had said: Verily Allah deferred it till the time it is seen, so it is to be reckoned from the night you saw it.

the months of Eid are not incomplete

'Abd ar-Rahman b.Abu Bakra reported it on the authority of his father that the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) had said: The two months of Eid, Ramadan and ZulHijja (are not incomplete).

the timing of fast begins with dawn

'Adi b. Hatim (Allah be pleased with him) reported that when (this verse) was revealed:" Until the white streak of the dawn becomes distinct from the dark streak" (Quran 2:187) Adi b. Hatim said: Messenger of Allah, verily I keep underneath my pillow two strings, one white and the other black, by which I distinguish night from dawn. Upon this the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) said:
"Your pillow seems to be very large. For the word khait implies the blackness of the night and the whiteness of the dawn".

excellence of taking meal before dawn, stress on giving it preference and preference for deferring it (at the fag end of the night) and hastening in breaking it

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger, Muhammad (may peace be upon him) as saying:
"Take meal a little before dawn, for there is a blessing in taking meal at that time".

Obligatory Fast During Ramadan

God Commands Muslims To Fast During The Month Of Ramadan

In The Al Quran, Chapter/Surah Al Baqarah (The Cow) (Surah 2)
God (Allah) has Commanded as follows:

Verses 183 and 184, “O Believers, the Fast has been made obligatory on you just as it was prescribed for the followers of the Prophets before you. It is expected that this will produce piety in you. The Fast is to be observed for a fixed number of days. If, however, anyone of you be sick or on a journey, he should fast the same number of other days. As for those who can fast (but do not), the expiation of this shall be the feeding of one needy person for one fast day, and whoso does more than this with a willing heart does it for his own good. But if you understand the thing, it is better for you to observe the Fast”.

Verse 185, “Ramadan is the month in which the holy Qur'an was sent down : this Book is a perfect guidance for mankind and consists of clear teachings which show the right way and are a criterion of Truth and falsehood. Therefore from now on whoever witnesses it, it is obligatory on hire to fast the whole month, but if one be ill or on a journey, he should make up for the same number by fasting on other days. Allah desires to show leniency to you and does not desire to show any hardship. "therefore this method is being shown to you so that you may complete the number of Fast days and glorify Allah for the Guidance He has shown to you and be grateful to Him”.

Verse 186, “And if My servants ask you, O Prophet. concerning Me, tell them that I am quite near to them. I hear and answer the prayer of the suppliant, when he calls to Me. So let them respond to My call and believe in Me. Convey this to them, O Prophet; so that they may be guided aright”.

Verse 187, “It has been made lawful for you to go to your wives during the nights of the fast days. They are as a garment to you and you are as a garment to them. Though Allah knew that you were secretly dishonest to yourselves***, He has pardoned your guilt and forgiven you. NOW you are permitted to have intercourse with your wives and enjoy what Allah has made lawful for you. You are also pemitted to eat and drink during the nights of the Fast months until you can discern the white streak of dawn from the blackness of night. Then (abstain from all these things and) complete your fast till nightfall. But you should not have intercourse with your wives while you confine yourselves to mosques. These are the bounds set by Allah; so do not go near them. In this way Allah makes His Commands clear to mankind. It is expected that they will guard themselves against wrong ways (evils)”.

*** Until this verse 187 was revealed, the Muslims use to fast completely from the evening meal of one day till the evening meal of the next day, and if they fell asleep before they had taken their meal they had considered it their duty to abstain from it, with the result than men fainted and came near death. Intercourse with their wives had been similarly restricted.

Quran Revealed In Ramadan

Ramadan is one of the holy months in Islam and is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is important for Muslims because Ramadan is the month during which the Holy Quran (the Muslims Holy book) was revealed by God (Allah) to Prophet Muhammad pbuh. God has promised to mankind that the gates of Heaven would be opened throughout Ramadan and the gates of Hell would be closed. It is also important because Ramadan is the month during which the Muslims were ordered to fast, and this obligatory fasting is the 3rd pillar of Islam, and to fast is to achieve a spiritual satisfaction and total submission to God in their daily practice. The name “Ramadan” came from the time before the Islamic calendar when the month of Ramadan fell in the summer, and fasting during this month is often thought to figuratively burn away all sins.
To Muslims the Quran is the true words of God given to humanity through Muhammad pbuh, the last of the prophets. Muhammed pbuh was commanded by God to call the people to monotheism and righteousness. This tradition of God chosen prophets or messengers include such figures as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day. This means not to eat, drink or smoke during the daylight hours. For married adults, it also includes refraining from marital relations during the hours of fasting (i.e. the daylight hours). The fasting person is expected to do his best to practice self control and discipline, not to get angry easy, refrain from using harsh language or insults and to tolerate, forgive and respect others. Young children, old and sick people are not expected to fast. Older people can feed a poor person for every day that they do not fast in Ramadan. Sick people can compensate by fasting other days when they feel well. Children are permitted to fast only when they are strong enough physically to fast without difficulty.

Poverty Rise In USA

there is still significant poverty in malaysia

Numbers of poor in US projected to increase to 38.8mil

WASHINGTON: The numbers of poor and uninsured Americans are likely rising - with more than 38.8 million believed to be in poverty.
Rebecca Blank, the Commerce Department's undersecretary of economic affairs, spoke to The Associated Press in advance of next month's closely watched release of 2008 census data.
Noting the figures are not yet final, Blank said the numbers will likely show a "statistically significant" increase in the poverty rate, to at least 12.7 percent.
That would represent a jump of more than 1.5 million poor people last year.
"There's no question that 2008 economically was a much worse year than 2007," she said Wednesday.
"The question is how much and how bad."
The number of Americans without medical insurance is also expected to notably increase due largely to rising unemployment and the erosion of private coverage paid for by employers and individuals, but Blank declined to say by how much.
In 2007, the number of uninsured fell by more than 1 million mostly because government programs such as Medicaid for the poor picked up the slack.
The census figures, set to be released Sept. 10, could have important ramifications as Congress returns from its August recess to debate health reform, its cost, and the ways to pay for it.
Republicans also have traditionally pointed to the intractable poverty rate as a sign that government programs do not work, a claim likely to be repeated often in light of the federal economic stimulus package.
In a 30-minute interview, Blank said the census figures released next month could possibly understate the actual number of poor people, since the poverty rate is a lagging indicator that tends to accelerate over time.
As a result, the 2008 data could prove to be the tip of the iceberg, with more significant declines reflected in 2009 figures released next year.
Blank, a former co-director of the National Poverty Center at the University of Michigan, estimated this year that poverty could eventually hit 14.8 percent or more in the United States should unemployment reach 10 percent as some analysts have predicted.
That would be almost one of every seven Americans.
Based on 2007 figures, the poverty rate currently stands at 12.5 percent, or 37.3 million, largely unchanged from recent years.
The official poverty level is now $21,203 for a family of four, $13,540 for a family of two, based on a calculation that includes only cash income before deductions for taxes.
It excludes capital gains and it does not take into account accumulated wealth or assets, such as a home.
On Wednesday, Blank said she was working with the Census Bureau to provide better measures of poverty.
Such alternative measures, which will be released sometime after Sept. 10, will seek to better incorporate added costs of health care, child care, housing and transportation, but also noncash income from the stimulus and other government programs, such as tax credits and food stamps. - AP, 20 Aug 2009

Health, Wealth and Happiness

fountain of wealth

Hadis - Al-Tirmizhi #5290, Narrated by one of the companions

When we were sitting together, Allah's Messenger pbuh appeared with a trace of
water on his head, and when we told him that he appeared to us to be in a happy frame of mind, he agreed.

The people then began to discuss wealth and Allah's Messenger said, "There is no harm in wealth for him who fears Allah, Who is Great and Glorious, but for him who fears Allah health is better than wealth, and a happy frame of mind is one of Allah's favours."

Prosperity

What is it?
How do you get it?
How do you recognise it?
What do you do with it once you have it?

What is Prosperity?

Prosperity and abundance circulates through the universe and through all our lives...it is an never ending flow of giving and receiving.

Our inner world is formed by our perceptions of the outer world. We all see the world through our own personal window which is a reflection of our beliefs, interpretations and associations. These have been formed throughout our lives by our numerous experiences. Our prosperity is really a reflection of our thoughts.

How do you recognize Prosperity?

Many people only associate prosperity with financial wealth but true riches are of many kinds. Along with material wealth there is also love, friendships, family, health, knowledge and spiritual wealth.

How do you get Prosperity?

For prosperity to touch your life there is just one truth....Giving leads to receiving. Those who give, who are generous, who share their wealth whatever that may be know something greater; giving itself is real riches. By giving of your time, of your love, of your friendships or of your money you receive more inner satisfaction, happiness and peace.

What do you do with Prosperity?

Once you give a gift to someone, forget about it. Whenever you give something away, consider it a gift, and don't expect something in return. Give freely and from the heart. Give with the intention of making both the giver and the receiver happy.

• If you want happiness then share happiness with all you meet
• If you want peace then live a peaceful life
• If you want love then give love freely and from your heart
• If you want joy then give joy to others
• If you have much give of your wealth
• If you have little give of your heart

Lao-Tse on Greed:
Continuing to fill a pail after
it is full, water will be wasted
Continuing to grind an axe after it
is sharp will wear it away

Excess of light blinds the eye
Excess of sound deafens the ear
Excess of sweets deadens the taste
He who possesses moderation is lasting and enduring.
Too much is always a curse

Ten Affirmations Towards Prosperity:
From "Your Right To Riches" by Colin Sisson

• I have great worth just being myself
• I deserve to be prosperous and wealthy
• Money flows easily to me
• Wealth enables me to more fully express my creative potential
• Expressing my creativity allows me to be wealthy
• Money and prosperity help me to help others
• The more I give, the more I receive
• I enjoy being paid for doing what I enjoy
• I am willing to receive money for my pleasure
• I am willing to allow my life to be fun and easy

Grow Old Gracefully

elderly love

“I am determined to grow old gracefully.” This resolution is often heard. It might not have been put quite like that but the meaning was clear, getting older does not equate with giving up. Ageing is a journey we all must take and with the proper attitude, lifestyle and a bit of luck, our later years can be very fulfilling.
Perhaps the biggest factor in enjoying our senior years is accepting the fact that we are now older and very normal limitations now abound. The pursuit of a youthful appearance can go only so far until it becomes somewhat silly and even degrading. Wearing our years honestly brings with it a certain dignity that we will benefit from.
We need to tolerate the inevitable loss of our physical strength and realize that asking for help can lead to closer ties with our families and friends. Speaking of friends, now is the time to reach out to old and new ones. If we cultivate the skill of really listening to what others are saying, we might just find that our vast experience gained over the years can be a font of knowledge that is readily accepted by friends in need of a little help.
Many older folks seem to lose the joy that they once had and tend to worry more and withdraw from friends and family. Doctors now say that laughter can be one of the best medicines for a senior citizen. Keeping your sense of humor and being able to laugh at yourself is a great attitude to develop and will increase our popularity with those around us.
Now we come to what I consider to be the most important factor in determining how much we will enjoy our senior years. I believe it is essential to maintain or acquire a passion for some activity and a lively interest in a number of areas would be best.
We will all have much more free time on our hands and using that time wisely will strengthen our zest for life and keep us mentally sharp and active. Travelling, hobbies and group activities all work to keep us engaged and prevent us from drawing in on ourselves and withdrawing from the world; the greatest danger to a seniors state of mind.
A good question to ask ourselves as we approach our senior years is this: “What good does it do us to add years to our lives if, at the same time, we do not add life to our years?” It is a terrific question to ask and our answer will make all the difference in the world as to how we spend our “golden years” especially when you’re alone without the company of a loved one by your side.

For him are Angels ranged before him and behind him, who guard him by Allah's command (Quran, Ar Ra'ad 13:11)
Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian (Quran, Al Hijr 15:9)
Allah is Warden over them, and thou art in no wise a guardian over them (Quran, Asy Syura' 42:6)
No human soul but hath a guardian over it (Quran, At Tariq 86:4)
Lo! there are above you guardians,
Generous and recording,
Who know (all) that ye do. (Quran, Al Infitar 82:10,11,12)
He is the Omnipotent over His slaves. He sendeth guardians over you until, when death cometh unto one of you, Our Messengers reveive him, and they neglect not (Quran, Al An 'am 6:61)
And We have guarded it from every outcast evil (Quran, Al Hijr 15:17)
With security from every froward devil (Quran, As Saffat 37:7)
Then He ordained them seven heavens in two Days and inspired in each heaven its mandate; and we decked the nether with lambs, and rendered it inviolable. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Knower (Quran, Fussilat 41:12)
And Allah surrounded them on all sides.
Nay, but it is a glorious Quran
On a guarded tablet (Quran, Al Buruj 85:20,21,22)

Success and Happiness

Two things we all want in life: Success and Happiness

However my idea of Success may be different from yours, and different from anyone else’s. But there is one big factor all of us must accept and learn to deal with if we want to be successful or happy. The Big Factor applies to everyone whether you are a lawyer, doctor, businessman, salesman, parent, clerk, housewife or whoever you are.

The common denominator to all success and happiness is other people.

If you learn to deal with other people you will have covered about 85 percent of the way towards success in any business, occupation or profession, and about 99 percent of the way towards achieving personal happiness.

Merely learning how to get along with people is no guarantee of either success or happiness. The “weak and ineffectual” in life have learned a way to get along with people to avoid trouble. The timid, retiring, doormat type of person has learned one way to “get along with people” i.e. to simply let them walk over him.

On the other extreme, the tyrannical, dictator-like type of person also has worked out a way to “get along with people”: he simply beats down all opposition, makes a doormat of them, and proceeds to walk over tem.

Each of us already has his/her own private system all worked out on how to get along with people. Even the neurotic has his own special way of doing this, and psychologists say that neurosis itself can be defined as a pattern of responses which the neurotic has worked out for getting along with people.

What counts is a way to get along with people, or deal with people, that will bring us personal satisfaction and at the same time not trample on the egos of those we deal with. Human relations is the science of dealing with people in such a way that our own egos and their egos remain intact. And this is the only method of getting along with people that ever brings any real success or any real satisfaction.

Home Minister Warns Bloggers

Reckless bloggers can be prosecuted

Bloggers who incite hatred or harp on sensitive issues like race and religion in their postings can be prosecuted for sedition, warned the Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the Government would put in place a mechanism to monitor and prevent seditious content from being displayed on blogs.

“The proposed mechanism will not only protect Islam or the Malays but all Malaysians,” he said after attending a state Umno gathering at Batu Burok here yesterday.

Hishammuddin said issues relating to the monarchy, race or religion were sensitive in a plural society like Malaysia and there must be some laws to prevent seditious postings on the Internet.

“In the past we didn’t have such problems but with the advent of cyberspace, such seditious postings could probably hurt the feelings of certain communities,” he said.

Hishammuddin said the proposed move was not meant to clamp down or censor the Internet but to maintain the peace and harmony among the people in the country.

“There are a few irresponsible bloggers; I’m not saying all have the tendency to post sensitive issues.

“There should be some boundaries when posting in blogs. Irresponsible bloggers can cause disunity” he said.

Hishammuddin said the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry, the Prime Minister’s Department, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and police will discuss the issue and come out with proposals for the monitoring mechanism.

A Muslim Wedding Fracas

Jim Fitzpatrick, a former fireman, has represented Poplar and Canning Town since 199and served as a junior transport minister, London minister and as Post Office minister

AN UNGODLY ROW WITH NO RESPECT ON EITHER SIDE

The Muslim wedding fracas is a culture clash that has everything to do with smugness and nothing to do with faith
Well, the proverb says that the Devil can quote Scripture, so accord the same privilege to a comment writer, fresh back from a dampish summer break to a bad-tempered set of newspapers.

Begin with the Quran: “Keep to forgiveness, enjoin kindness” it says at 7:199, pointing out at 25:63 that “The servants of the All-Merciful are they who walk upon earth gently, and when the ignorant ones address them, they say, ‘Peace!’.”

Proceeding to the Christian Bible, some 600 years older, in I Corinthians xiii we find injunctions to charity: a quality prized above all others because it “suffereth long, and is kind . . . envieth not, vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up”.

Then what? We turn on the news and find a ridiculous, infuriating, unforgiving, unpeaceful, thoroughly bilious car-crash clash of rude and stupid smugness. I refer, of course, to the affair of Jim Fitzpatrick, MP, and the wedding of Bodrul Islam and Mahbuba Kamali at the London Muslim Centre.

In case you have been fortunate enough to miss the story, Mr Fitzpatrick was invited by the groom’s father, a constituent, to join the celebrations. The MP for Poplar & Canning Town duly turned up with his wife, but on finding that men and women would have to sit separately, he left “as discreetly as possible”. He says that he has been to other Muslim weddings where the sexes mixed, and claims that it is the influence of the Islamic Forum of Europe — the IFE, which has an office there — that is making things stricter and thus threatening social cohesion. The hosts aver that he was invited to come back and sit somewhere special with his inseparable wife, but didn’t. And despite his vaunted discretion, he spoke to the press. Whereon the young couple — rather than shrugging and saying “peace” to the infidel, took the trouble to go on telly, demand an apology and claim he was “hijacking an innocent wedding” to win votes (a surprising accusation given that a third of his consituents are Muslim). Insults are hurled to and fro, and now everybody concerned is cross, pouting, puffing and thoroughly unholy.

Really, to hell with the lot of them! I spent a good 18 hours brooding on which side to take, and ended only with a powerful desire to bang all their heads together. I see why the bride and groom are annoyed: it was their expensive and showy wedding (800 guests and the local MP) as well as a religious declaration. Modern young couples of all persuasions all seem remarkably picky and touchy about their Big Day, whether the issue is fairy-themed silverplate favours, compulsory tailcoats or gender segregation. But the newly-weds are not simple people, new immigrants from a desert culture. They are denizens of a modern Western world — he a company director, she an investment banker — and could have worked out that when you invite non-Muslims it is civil to forewarn them explicitly that you are following a particularly strict tradition, in which men and women may not mix. It was a bit arrogant not to make it clear in advance: though if indeed they later offered to have the pair back, they may feel justifiably a bit aggrieved.

On the other hand I also see where Mr Fitzpatrick stands. He is frustrated by the “hardline” Islamic Forum’s influence in general, understandably in a time when the aggressive radicalisation of young Muslims is a serious social concern. He suspected the forum of pressuring the couple into non-essential traditionalism. As to the segregation itself, a number of male Muslim commentators leapt into action when the story broke, patronisingly explaining that women are more “comfortable” in an all-female environment and can wear nice clothes without “exposing” themselves to men.

Frankly, I find this aspect of Islam (an exaggerated and marginal element, like the full-face veil) every bit as creepy as Mr Fitzpatrick does. The apologia are too reminiscent of the phase of my childhood spent in apartheid South Africa, with separate park benches and bus stops and smooth politicians explaining that “separate development” of blacks and whites was good for the blacks because they could preserve their “culture”. In reality, of course, the white minority held the whip hand, and a savage whip at that. The separation, veiling and hiding of Muslim women —however individually assertive some are in private — is a troubling reflection of a tradition (still strong in much of the world) of giving women inferior status in property, marriage, divorce and self-determination. Also, like the niqab or burka covering the face, it carries an atavistic undertone of sexual suspicion that is equally offensive to men: as if one glimpse of bright hair or bare arm would provoke them to rape. Yes, I can see why Mr Fitzpatrick felt uneasy. But all the same, he was damn rude. And particularly rude to talk to the press.

Nobody comes out of it with any credit. More importantly, neither side comes out of it looking even remotely godly. I refer you to the Koranic and biblical lines I began with: if any religion is anything at all beyond flummery and flapdoodle, it is an inward self-surrender to some ultimate and unchanging goodness, beauty and strength. This in turn makes the individual forbearing, respectful and loving towards all other human beings, seeing in each of them a reflection of that splendour. Everything else — dress, chants, rituals, food, big orange drums, reliquaries, rosaries — is marginal.

Taking offence, puffing with indignation and issuing self-justifying statements are not religious activities, any more than persecution and terrorism. And when non-believers show tact by covering their heads, taking off their shoes or staying quiet during other people’s ceremonies, it is because they respect that sense of spirituality and grandeur even if they do not share it.

My Catholic mother, travelling the world as a diplomatic wife, taught us in infancy to incline our heads as we passed golden Buddhas, Hindu temples, mosques and synagogues. It did not indicate that we wanted to sign up, just that we respected other people’s journeys. Many ways up the holy mountain, all that. On the other hand, I doubt she would have expected her Jewish, Muslim and atheist friends (or indeed her atheist husband) to genuflect to a tabernacle or kiss a bishop’s ring. This seems to me a fine and reasonable attitude. Neither party in the present shenanigan deserves that accolade.

Prayer In Islam (Sembahyang Dalam Islam)

even a "special person" can lead a few in a prayer

The religion of Islam and Muslims feature prominently in the media nowadays. Muslims are often depicted as fanatical or extreme for simply following the basic tenets of Islam and the information that is circulated is often incorrect or inadequately explained. Basic practices and pillars of Islam begin to take on strange connotations when the reality is that they are acts of worship that denote piety and God consciousness. Muslims testify with certainty that there is none worthy of worship except God alone. They believe that Muhammad pbuh is His Messenger. They fast, they give in charity, and they try to go on a pilgrimage.

Muslims also pray five times per day. Five times! When some hear this, they throw their hands up in horror and wonder about the amount of time this takes and how it can be slotted into one 24 hr period. Others, who are used to communicating with God in their own form of prayer will often question the rules and regulations, are attached to prayer in Islam. God, they say, is accessible at any time. According to Muslim belief that is correct. God is accessible at anytime and in any place. Muslims call on God frequently throughout the day and night. They raise their hands in supplication and ask for His Help, Mercy, and Forgiveness.

Ramadan Month Is Here Again

The name "ALLAH", the standard Arabic word for God, the term best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God, and used by Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews,
is ar Rahman and ar Raheem
.

In Arabic usage, linguistic structure of Rahman suggests fullness, abundance, overflow, brimming over. Thus Rahman signifies One whose mercy knows no bounds, Who is over-brimming with compassion, kindness, love and deep concern.

Rahman is He whose Rahmat encompasses each and everyone without any discrimination, its spectrum is so wide, so comprehensive that no creature, human or otherwise, falls out of its sphere. Like Allah it is applied to God alone.

The connotation of Raheem is somewhat different. Though derived from the same root, ie. Rahm, its structure is suggestive of continuous, repeated, frequent occurrence. Thus Raheem denotes the Being Whose mercy and compassion is showered continuously, without break, incessantly, ad infinitum. Taken together both the attributes would mean that His mercy is boundless, infinite, indiscriminate, continuous and constant.

The Quran is the manifestation, the outcome, the expression and the outpouring of the Divine attribute Rahman. "Ar-Rahman, He taught the Quran," (Quran 55:1,2). His Rahmaniyat, His limitless mercy, His unbounded compassion, demanded that the humanity must not be left at the mercy of blind emotions and animal instincts which continuously raid upon his intellect and his faculty of discernment between right and wrong, thus relegating him to the status of a 'developed beast'. Human beings were not created to lead the life of animals and beasts.

At last, human history came its full round and the Divine Mercy, the Rahmaniyat, demanded that as the time was ripe, an incorruptible everlasting final code of conduct, an unerring book of eternal guidance, a final criterion of virtue and vice, right and wrong, good and bad, an unequivocal and clear statement of Truth, be made available to humanity to enable it to navigate its way to the goal of eternal success here and in the hereafter.

"It was in the month of Ramadan that the Quran – the most sublime guidance for entire humanity ; clear, intelligent, convincing arguments, evidences and signs; criterion for distinguishing right from wrong, good from evil – was sent down," (Quran 2:165).

It is thus the most magnanimous manifestation of God's mercy and compassion, Rahmaniyat, towards mankind that this invaluable gift was made available to it in the month of Ramadan.

This momentous event has bestowed a unique status upon this month and herein lays its real significance.

Fasting during this month has been made compulsory for all, excepting for the time being only those who are unable to do so being sick or on journey, to enable them to attain purification of soul, heart, mind and body.

"In consequence to this great Divine favour, whoever of you witnesses this month must spend it in fasting," (Quran 2:185).

And let them who were temporarily excused "make up the number later," (Quran 2:185), so that none may miss the spiritual benefits of this auspicious month.

Fasting during this month, says Quran, has been prescribed "that you extol the glory of Allah for His providing you the Guidance and so that you may be grateful for that," (Quran 2:185).

It is for the first time that the Quran introduces itself in this Surah by its proper name al-Quran. Apart from suggesting a strong bond of relationship between the Quran and the month of Ramadan, it hints at something more. The word Quran literally means that which is read over and over again, which is recited very frequently. It signifies that this Code of Guidance is not an ordinary book to be gone through once and then kept aside. Relationship with the Quran has to be a life-long engagement.

The dual purpose of sending down the "Book" as evinced by the verse "this Book which we have sent down, full of Barakah, is to be perused with particular attention and followed in practical life by those who possess understanding,"(Quran 38:29), is that man must consume his best intellectual capabilities to delve deep in the Quranic treasure trough and accordingly fashion his individual and collective life. This purpose cannot be materialised unless frequent visits to the Quran are ensured.

It must not, however, be misunderstood that simple intellectual exercise could in any way be the exclusively an effective tool to a genuinely correct understanding of the Quran. This misconception has been removed by the Quran itself.

It is said in Surah al-Waqi'ah "Verily it is the Quran, most venerated, preserved in a written document, hidden from the eyes, it would not be touched except by the most pure, the most cleanly." The Quran does not allow itself to be physically touched by the ritually impure, the bodily filthy and unclean.

The much needed Divine Guidance was made available to humanity. The crucial problem, however, remained as how to attain that spiritual cleanliness, that purity of the inner self which would elevate man and enable him to ensure his access to the real Divine intention underlying the words of the Quran. The clue is supplied by the Quran itself. "O, ye who believe! Fasts, for a few fixed number of days, are prescribed upon you as they were prescribed upon those before you, that you may attain Taqwa." These appointed days constitute, we are informed in the following third verse, the whole month of Ramadan. Fasting during the whole month of Ramadan is said to inculcate Taqwa in the believers.

Taqwa is that spiritual sublimity of the soul which when attained restrains the believer from indulging in any such activity which may cause Divine displeasure and thereby result in the loss of love and favour of the Most Compassionate One. The Ramadan exercise to attain Taqwa and consequently be blessed with Furqan so raises and purifies a believer spiritually, morally and intellectually as to replenish him with the needed equipment, the required capacity, to pierce the veil of the Quranic words and peep into the underlying Divine intentions, aims and objectives, so to say read the "mind of God". The ultimate purpose of Fasting during the month of Ramadan is thus to enable a believer to have a really better, deeper understanding of the Divine Message.

A word of caution is needed here. Fasting during Ramadan, no doubt, has an intrinsic quality of inculcating Taqwa and under normal circumstances it may be reasonably expected to produce the desired result. What requires our attention is that while stating the Taqwa- producing property of Fasting the Quran uses the word La'allakum which denotes hope and fear at one and the same time instead of using the word Kay which carries the sense of certainty. Thus the Quran instead of saying outright that Fasting is certain to inculcate Taqwa, introduces an element of uncertainty and ambiguity by saying that it is expected to produce Taqwa, while there is also fear that it may fail to do so.

The Quran thus strongly suggests that there are some preconditions attached which must be fulfilled at all cost so that Taqwa may blossom into full bloom. These prerequisites have been explained at full length by the most authentic interpreter of the Quran, the Prophet himself, peace be upon him. In a nutshell, those observing Fasting have to shun and avoid all such mental and physical acts or omissions which have the propensity of nipping the Taqwa in the bud.

Ramadhan Menjelang Lagi (2)

“Faya ‘ajaban liman adraka ramada na fala yughfarulah,

Ketika Ramadan menjelang, Rasulullah SAW bersabda bermaksud:
“Wahai manusia, menjelang tiba bulan agung lagi berkat.

Amalkan 7 Sunnah Rasulullah SAW

Kedua: membaca Al-Qur'an sebelum terbit matahari Alangkah baiknya sebelum mata melihat dunia, sebaiknya mata melihat ayat-ayat Al-Qur'an terlebih dahulu yang dibaca dengan penuh pemahaman.

Ketiga: jangan tinggalkan masjid terutama di waktu subuh. Sebelum melangkah kemana pun langkahkan kaki ke masjid, kerana masjid merupakan pusat wsegala keberkatan, bukan kerana panggilan muadzin tetapi panggilan Allah yang mencari orang beriman untuk memakmurkan masjid Allah.

Keempat: jaga solat dhuha, kerana kunci rezeki terletak pada solat dhuha.

Kelima: jaga sedekah setiap hari.

Persist To Exist And Truth Shall Prevail

Napoleon Hill said, "The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail."

to persist is to continue firmly and obstinately (in an opinion or a cause of action) esp. despite obstacles, remonstrance, etc

to be consistent is to be compatible or in harmony, not contradictory, constant to the same principles of thought or action

to exist is to have a place as part of objective reality

Persist To Exist - Istiqomah Untuk Wujud

determination - the tireless pursuit of His Divine Promises, of a goal, a cause or a purpose
driven by belief, optimism, enthusiasm, integrity, courage, confidence, patience, calmness and always being focused,
so that one can be
healthy, happy, wealthy and live in sanctity

and most importantly,God Has Promised
Truth shall always prevail, Lies shall be exposed
