Being a local is no bonus, says Salahuddin
PORT DICKSON: Barisan Nasional will find that it has no advantage having its candidate being a local in the Bagan Pinang by-election, Salahuddin Ayob said.
The PAS director for the Bagan Pinang by-election said what mattered most to voters was not if the candidate was a local or outsider but whether he had integrity and the people’s respect.
Urging Barisan to stop harping on the “anak tempatan” (local son) trump card for its candidate Mohamad Isa Samad to fish for votes, Salahuddin, who is PAS vice-president said being a local did not necessarily mean that Isa could solve the people’s problems.
He said the fact that PAS’ candidate in Batu Gantang Mohd Saleh Man defeated Barisan’s Rohaizad Osman who was a local in the recent by-election was proof that being a local did not make much difference to voters.
“PAS is also confident of winning the seat based on the turnout on nomination day as thousands had braved the rain to lend their support to PAS’s candidate Zulkefly Mohd Omar,” he said.
